Leicestershire /Ecublens – Bosch Packaging Technology has been rewarded with the Food Processing Award in the “packaging solutions” category. Granted by the Food Processing Magazine, the award recognizes the company’s innovative DCS 1000 processed cheese machine, first presented at Anuga FoodTec 2015 in Cologne earlier this year. This packaging solution is a development of Sapal SA, a company of Bosch Packaging Technology, based in Ecublens, Switzerland. The award ceremony took place on 18 June as part of the “Investing in the future” conference in Leicestershire, UK.

High speed and precision

To meet the growing demands of the processed cheese industry, the machine has been redesigned and ensures uninterrupted production of individually wrapped slices (IWS) with an output of 1,000 slices per minute. A fully redesigned forming group, now with an integrated cooling system, provides full control of the product at any given speed. This results in an excellent distribution of the cheese mass and a perfect and precise slice shape even at the lowest slice weight of 13 grams (lowest available on the market).

The sturdy designed forming group furthermore allows for a broad span of recipes – from reduced dry matter to non-dairy ingredients – giving manufacturers the flexibility to quickly adjust to changing market demands. Capable of handling and supporting 1,000 slices per minute across three conveyors, the improved construction ensures accurate alignment of each slice and efficient transportation to the stacking device. The redesigned DCS 1000 is also equipped with a motorized three stack descent device, which ensures that each slice lands in the same position, forming an accurate, vertically stacked profile.

The Food Processing Award

Started in 2015, the Food Processing Awards are an initiative originated by regular readers of the Food Processing magazine. Their demand for a regional show dedicated to the UK food and beverage community resulted in the creation of an outstanding opportunity to network with an exclusive set of decision-makers from the packaging industry. The entries are nominated in six categories and each machine or technology must demonstrate an improvement in quality, profitability and efficiency of the packaging process. All winners will be showcased in the August issue of Food Processing magazine as well as on their online platform.
