International focus on Egypt, the International Symposium on Biotechnological Tools in Horticulture and potatoes in the spotlight. The 2025 edition will be even more innovative and spectacular.
Egypt as the international partner, potatoes in the spotlight, the International Symposium on Biotechnological Tools in Horticulture, thematic focus sessions with a new addition, ‘The Healthy Food Show’, to be presented in an innovative and spectacular way. These are just some of the novelties of the 42nd edition of Macfrut, the international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable sector, which will be held from Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 May 2025.
Held at the Rimini Expo Centre, it is the industry’s only international supply chain trade fair and is a unique event that combines three key elements for the sector’s growth: Business, because it is tailored to industry professionals, Networking, because it offers an exclusive free business-to-business service for exhibitors and buyers with a dedicated platform, and Knowledge, because its content is ‘certified’ by a panel of leading global experts, ensuring high-quality topics that reflect the latest developments in the sector.

Egypt as the Partner Country
Egypt has been chosen as the international partner for Macfrut 2025. This Mediterranean country is strategically positioned as a growing player in the global agricultural market. The partnership will elevate Egypt’s prominence within the fair, where it will showcase its fruit and vegetable sector through events, tastings, and presentations. This collaboration strengthens Macfrut’s relationship with the Middle Eastern and North African markets, which are vital for the agricultural sector. Egypt’s participation will be supported by a large delegation from both institutional and business sectors, marking the fair’s commitment to international trade.
Spotlight on potatoes
As one of the world’s most widely grown crops, with a global production area of around 18 million hectares, potatoes will be the star product of the 2025 edition. The trade fair will host the International Potato Symposium, a two-day event featuring in-depth discussions on technical, agronomic and market issues with international experts, global stakeholders and leading researchers in the sector.
The International Symposium on Biotechnological Tools in Horticulture
A major new feature at Macfrut 2025 will be the International Symposium on Biotechnological Tools in Horticulture. Sponsored by the International Society of Horticultural Science (ISHS), this event will focus on the latest biotechnological advancements in horticulture. The three-day symposium will explore in vitro plant cultures, propagation techniques, and the development of resilient, high-quality varieties. This event will provide a platform for researchers and industry leaders to share the latest scientific insights and technological innovations.
Macfrut has always been known for its specialized exhibitions, and the 2025 edition will continue this tradition with several thematic showcases.
Biosolutions International Event (BIE)
BIE is the exhibition dedicated to natural products for plant protection, nutrition and biostimulation and, from the 2025 edition, also to technologies for sustainability (such as drones, DSS and AI). It has become the most important event in the sector in Southern Europe due to the fact that it is entirely dedicated to this topic: an exhibition (around 70 companies at the last edition), an International Congress, which next year will be dedicated to the peach tree, the Biosolutions Innovation Award, technical round tables for exhibitors and sponsors, and meetings with foreign biosolutions buyers for all exhibitors.
Plant Nursery Area
It is the exhibition dedicated to innovations in the plant nursery industry, an occasion for meetings and discussions between nurserymen, breeders, growers, specialists and researchers. It is a vital sector for modern horticulture and variety innovation. Topical issues will be presented at the trade fair during conferences, technical seminars and workshops with the world’s leading experts, in collaboration with SOI (Italian Society for Horticultural Science) and CIVI Italia. One of the new additions is the ‘Varieties International Project’ (VIP), a series of focus sessions on genetic improvement and new varieties in modern fruit growing and will include four workshops with top experts in the field of breeding, as well as leading global companies specialising in genetics and variety development.
Macfrut 2025 will reach the highest number of exhibitors ever, increasing the exhibition space by 15%,. The presence of major global players confirms Macfrut’s attractiveness as a leading event for the entire fruit and vegetable supply chain. In addition, Internationalization is at the heart of Macfrut’s growth, making it one of the trade shows in Italy with the highest percentage of foreign participants. Since last summer, the organizers have carried out promotional missions across four continents – Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America – to promote the fair, culminating in an international press conference in Egypt, this year’s partner country.
Among the confirmed international delegations and collectives, Macfrut will welcome representatives from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Tunisia, Kenya, Tanzania, Argentina, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.
